let it be me

I love the Indigo Girls. I love this song. I have decided it's my theme song for the earthquake and all the ensuing drama that is my life. I love that one person can make a difference.

let it be me

sticks and stones
battle zones
a single light bulb on a single thread for the black
sirens wail
history fails
rose-colored glass begins to age and crack
while the politicians shadowbox the power ring
in an endless split decision never solve anything
from a neighbor's distant land i heard the strain of the common man

let it be me
(this is not a fighting song)
let it be me (not a wrong for a wrong)
let it be me
if the world is night, shine my life like a light

well the world seems spent
and the president has no good idea
of who the masses are
well i'm one of them and i'm among friends
we're trying to see beyond
the fences in our own backyards
i've seen the kingdoms blow like ashes in the winds of change
but the power of truth is the fuel for the flame
so the darker the ages get there's a stronger beacon yet

let it be me
(this is not a fighting song)
let it be me (not a wrong for a wrong)
let it be me
if the world is night, shine my life like a light

in the kind word you speak
in the turn of the cheek
when your vision stays clear in the face of your fear
then you see turning out a light switch
is their only power
when we stand like spotlights in a mighty tower
all for one and one for all
then we sing the common call

let it be me
(this is not a fighting song)
let it be me (not a wrong for a wrong)
let it be me
if the world is night, shine my life like a light

This made me smile when you posted it on your FB this morning. I love them! (You should e-mail them and tell them.)

The lyrics seem tailor-made for the earthquake, the government, and the resilience and spirit of Haitians don't they? I agree, you should e-mail them. They would love it!

I feel slightly stalker-ish leaving a comment two days in a row, but I just had to say that I love the Indigo Girls, too. I really like the following lyrics from the Wood Song...they sort of pertain to your situation, too...

Sometimes I ask to sneak a closer look
Skip to the final chapter of the book
And maybe steer us clear from some of the pain that it took
To get us where we are this far
But the question drowns in its futility
And even I have got to laugh at me
Cause no one gets to miss the storm of what will be
Just holding on for the ride...

I just wanted to introduce myself! I'm a married mama of four and have been so blessed reading your blog and seeing how God is using you and your family in Haiti. I've been praying for your family and the people of Haiti. And my love for the children and people of Haiti has been growing exponentially everyday. Our church (tba church of Lakeland, Florida) has been working to get involved with Joy in Hope for a couple of months now, and we are hoping to come this Summer...that is if there will be a need. I know that many people have come in hopes to help but really just have been getting in the way. We were hoping to help with the soccer camp, etc.
Just wanted to officially say "hi" and tell you that I hope I get the pleasure of meeting you some day!
God Bless,
Heather

I remember you singing this years ago - playing it at many decibels on the boombox in my classroom.... what a long journey you've had since then!

Press on - you are doing amazing work. Take it one day at a time (or maybe one hour). And do write IG when you get a chance.

You have people worldwide who are praying for you, rooting for you, sending you energy, and everything else we can do from afar.
