A skilled woman

A few months ago when I was here, I met Lucianne Pierre, and her family. She has 6 kids 11 and under and is a single mom. She was about to be evicted from her house (shack). Her kids were ill. None of her kids were in school. They were hungry and anemic. She had nothing to her name and was unemployed, illiterate and had no trade.

Here's a photo of her and her children back then--

Several times a week she came to the door of the HCH and asked for help-- money, food, a job, take a few of her children... anything. She was nothing if not persistent in her requests. And little by little, HCH was able to help. Danny and Leann felt for this woman (like they do) and have worked hard to truly help her. A few weeks ago, when a job came open, she moved nearer to where HCH is located and now is a permanent employee of HCH, where she washes clothes by hand all day long, six days a week. She brings her youngest child, Michline, with her while her FIVE OTHER CHILDREN ARE IN SCHOOL. (Danny drives them to school each day along with the HCH kids.)

Today Nia asked me if she could help Madame Lucianne do the washing. I knew this wasn't really going to be a help to Lucianne, but she was persistent in her asking.

So here's Lucianne, a woman the world would call unskilled, teaching my daughter the skill she does know. I guess she isn't unskilled after all, huh?

I LOVE that! Maybe I can send my girls down there to learn how to do their laundry.
